The reason for that is there are two UAL symbol tickers one in NYSE and one in NASDAQ. I am guessing you are looking at UAL Corp. So enter NYSE:UAL instead of just entering UAL and it should work.
I downloaded your app and can not get it to work. I named the portfolio and tried to enter in a stock and when I hit add, nothing happens other than the processing circle and the phone eventually going to sleep. I have tried several different stocks with the same result. I checked and I downloaded version 1.9.0.
Ok. What stocks did you add?? Try adding them to the watchlist and see if it has the same effect. If you can send me the symbols, I might be able to help you better and quicker. You should have the ability to delete the portfolio by going to the top left corner menu and clicking Delete Portfolio, but only do this in case of corruption or system crashes or if there is no other way. As far as I know one of the symbols may be invalid. So please send me the symbols you tried to add that caused the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience. I will try to resolve it ASAP.
Phyllis, the first stock you added that caused the problem will be the one that is important. If that is corrupt/invalid, any symbol entered after that will not work. So please make sure you give me the first symbol that caused this, in the mean time delete the portfolio as I explained in the previous post and try to enter the other symbols, but not the one that caused the issue.
Madhu, I love your app, I use it all the time and it works great for me. Sorry to hear that other users are having problems. Anyway, I was wondering if you could add totals for the current day's performance to the portfolio screen. It's difficult to tell if my stocks are up or down overall unless I memorize my standing at the beginning of the day.
Thanks Chris, I had the totals for the day in the initial version but took it out, in subsequent versions as it became crowded. I am experimenting with new representations for the portfolio, and if it looks good, I am going to add the feature back in.
Madhu, TD Ameritrade is discontinuing Market Simplified on Nov 30 and releasing a new app on all platforms but WebOS! This is disappointing as I won't be able to execute trades from my phone. However, Portfolio Manager is still the best program for monitoring my losing portfolio! All it needs now is trading :)
Oh really, I haven't heard about that, I will check on that. I cannot provide trading integration into Portfolio Manager application as it requires lots of security measures/clearances, and responsibility on my part, not to mention the cost. Although I could provide links to actual TDAmeritrade site or ETrade site or any trading sites for users to login to execute their trades. But again, I will be responsible for providing those links. So it defeats the whole purpose of keeping the app simple enough and secure enough that even if you loose your device/phone you are not at any risk, as the data you have in the app, can be real or not and is not logged in to any trading platform for someone in possession of your device to execute, including me. But I will consider all options that come my way including all suggestions from users like you and will consider them for development, if they are feasible and don't make the application too complicated. I have a few other enhancements lined up, they should be out in a few days.
Madhu, don't worry about it. Keep the program doing the one thing it does best! I have no real need to trade on my phone anyway. Since I purchased your app I don't even use Market Simplified.
Hi there! Love the app in general -- it's almost exactly what I was looking for. The only options I'd like to see added are:
the ability to re-order the stocks in your portfolio (maybe you can already do this? If so, I couldn't figure it out)
the ability to enter purchase price & commission separately. Without this feature I had to do some rounding at the last decimal place on purchase price (lump sum of price & commission divided by share # purchased), leaving my portfolio off by a few to several cents on many stocks. This isn't a Huge deal as I still get a general idea, but I'd love to get it to the exact penny and know it matches my portfolio perfectly
Hi thanks for the feedback, I was thinking about adding the commission fee field too. After doing a small survey it was decided not to have that in there, as most trading platforms don't include the commission fees in the users portfolio details, and in some cases it is a monthly fee, not a per trade fee. So I decided to not confuse the user with these differences. But I will think about adding it in.
Oh, thank you, I did not realize other sites would do things differently. Maybe instead of a commission field, maybe just have an option to manually enter your own Cost Basis instead of me having to "back in" to the number by spreading the commission cost out over the shares purchased. Or I could just leave commissions out, but I like having it in to get the best overall picture. I use Sharebuilder and I have many trades that were free, were 4 bucks, or were 9.95, so it varies. Either way tho, the app is great and it is totally worth the purchase price! Thanks. --Lindsay
Thanks Lindsay, if you have any suggestions or feedback, please do post them, I will try to include them if they are feasible. If possible please leave a review for the app in the catalog, if you haven't already.
Great Job! Like I said in my review this is the best portfolio managing app in the catalogue today. I'm looking forward to your intended improvements especially being able to manage more than one portfolio.
Some feature requests: * a stock screen (P/E, Dividend yield, D/E, ROE, Earnings Growth, PEG, and Institutional Ownership, price, market cap) * some more specific stock info like opinions from: * http://www.insidestocks.com/texpert.asp?sym=PKI-UN.TO&code=BSTKTA * http://stockchase.com/Company.php?search=pki.un
Thanks Will, I will keep in mind your suggestions. Right now, I am trying to get the multiple portfolios going with loosing any functionality that is present now. I will be on vacation from next week till christmas, but I will try to get that feature completed and look into others.
Hi, I am guessing that when you entered the stock purchase price, you entered it in GBP. With the new update what I did was I fixed the symbol for currency to GBX. I have no control of what you entered as the stock price. So if u entered the purchase price in pounds, I request that you re enter that in pence GBX. So for example if you entered the symbol as SRT , the stock purchase price should be entered as 37.5 which will be in pence and number of shares with the exchange as London. Sorry when I released the earlier version I was going to keep the currency as pence or GBX , but instead left it as pound and it has caused all this issues with London stocks. In version 2.1.0 I fixed the currency symbol. So get the new version. But I cannot touch what the user has stored in his portfolio as my main goal with the app was privacy. Everything is user controlled. I admit that the GBX and GBP mix up was a fault on my part, so please trended your positions and it should work after you have the new version. Example would be RIO as the symbol, with purchase price as 4000, number of shares as 100 and exchange as LON.
Please let me know if you have more issues. But make sure you installed the new update and that your app version is 2.1.0. You can find the version in the Help section of the app.
Hi Dick S, I was thinking can u send an example of one stock that you entered to track. Symbol and purchase price. Like SRT and 37.50 if this was in pence or pounds. That's all I need.
Hi Dick S, I have just received some notes on the quotes I am using for London stock exchange, it looks like most of the stocks will be in pence(GBX), but some might be in Pounds (GBP), I did not have this information before. So I will try to compensate for that and release an update. But as far as I am told most of them will be in GBX.
I think I undersyand now. Normally shate prices would be entered and shown in penve (GBX) buy the stock total value and portfolio total value shown in pounds (GgBP).
I think I understood part of it. But let me try to get this cleared. For example, lets say, you have two stocks on the London Stock Exchange. You bought 100 shares of "RIO" at 3000GBX/share and also 1000 shares of "SRT" at 40GBX/share. And lets assume that their current prices are 4000GBX/share for RIO and 30GBX/share for SRT. So, in the portfolio screen the overall portfolio will be GBX700,000(400000 for RIO and 300000 for SRT).
RIO Tinto plc (LON:RIO) GBX 4,000 GBX 400,000 xxxx(xxxx) xxxxx(xxxx) 100 shares @avg.price of GBX3000
Software Radio Technology plc (LON:SRT) GBX 30 GBX 300,000 xxxx(xxxx) xxxxx(xxxx) 1000 shares @avg.price of GBX40
This is how it will look. But you want the GBX 300,000 and GBX 400,000 and the GBX 700,000 to be shown as GBP 3,000 , GBP 4,000 and GBP 7,000!! Is that what you are requesting?? Or is the app showing you incorrect data/calculations??
Oh...ok, I understand, but then it would show two different currency denominations in the same screen for the same stock, the stock daily price and change will be in pence, but the overall standing and the overall portfolio standing will be pounds. I can make that change. I will do that and issue an update, but it won't be until christmas as I am about to leave for vacation for 3 weeks, so I won't be able to test any changes I make before I do the release, I will check and see if I can get sometime during vacation to try and push this out. Please do send me a screenshot of a sample, but """do not""" send any personal details like account information, you can send the screen-shot to madhubhaskar_k@yahoo.co.in
I recently purchased the app and I am unable to add any stocks
As a test I entered MSFT 27.00 as purchase price and 200 as qty and clicked add. All I see is a spinning circle and nothing happens, then once screen goes off or i open another app while i wait what i entered dissapears.
I also tried deleting portfolio and this also appears to do nothing.
Interestingly if I run the trial version I can add the stock another observation is that in the full version I do not see buttons for portfolio and watch list which are visible in the trial.
Hi Leo, I think the installation was corrupt or did not complete installation at all . Can you install the app again. It shouldn't cost you anything. You can install it again from your backup profile. So delete the app and install it again. Make sure you have the profile backup. I am guessing you have installed apps that you bought before, again after deleting them for some reason. Once you are done installing, then try adding stocks again. Let me know if this resolves the issue.
Hi Leo, is your issue resolved. I forgot to ask, when you installed the app, and first launched it, it must have asked you to give a portfolio name. Once that was entered, it should have taken you to the portfolio screen with no stocks in there and a message saying that your portfolio is empty. Click the Add button to get started. Did you get all that? Once you click the Add button or + button we should be able to add the stocks.
I would like to be able to add mutual fund and corporate Bonds on the App. does anyone know how or when this be possible. My porfolio relies heavy on bonds. thank you Manuel Alves
For Mutual Funds you just enter the name of the fund and it should resolve to the Fund. for example "FAIRX" is the name for the Mutual Fund Fairholme. Corporate Bonds data is not available at the moment, sorry.
Hi David, Is that a fund that you are trying to add?? If so, what is the name of the fund?? If you can give the fund name I may be able to help. BGY is "Blackrock International Real Estate Fund" . Is this what you are looking for?? For this just enter NYSE:BGY . IF this does not help let me know what you are entering and also what is the error message you are getting?? Also if possible and if you haven't already leave a review in the catalog.
I'm trying to add AT&T (symbol: T) and Procter & Gamble (symbol: PG) to my portfolio. It keeps telling me the symbols are invalid. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi Chris, Try entering the symbols as NYSE:T and NYSE:PG, that should solve your issue. Let me know if that helps and if you have any other issues/questions.
Thanks much for adding Palladium to the commodities page.
So far all else is good though it seems if you're going to have a Forex conversion page you might as well show current values for conversion rates for important currencies like Euro, Dollar, British Pound, Yen, CHF... and so on.
I know it's maybe pushing the envelop for a 99-cent application. But it's a good all-around app and honestly I can see it being worth more if it covers most financial monitoring aspects as it seems to be tending towards.
can you add bldrs emerging markets fund (adre)? Also, is there a way to add more then 1 portfolio? I have an individual and an ira that I would like to keep separate.
Hi Michael, To add 'ADRE' to the portfolio, use 'NASDAQ:ADRE' as the symbol and it should work. Let me know if it helps. I am still working out some bugs related to the multiple portfolios support. Once those bugs are sorted out, I will roll that out.
I just upgraded from a Palm Pre plus to a Pre2, and the app carried over via my palm profile great. However I was prompted to install an upgrade for the app. Unfortunately the app won't load and I can't access my portfolio data. Can you help recover this issue?
Hi, Can you check and see if it cannot load commodities, markets or forex data either. Is it just the portfolio and watchlist data that causes the issue.
When you the portfolio and watchlist are empty, you mean that there is a message saying that they are empty?? If it is, then the files from your old phone were not carried over tot he new phone. If you still have your old phone, the portfolio data will be available to copy to the new device by connecting them in USB mode. You won't be able to do that for the watchlist though.
But if there is no message saying that portfolio and watchlist are empty, then the data might be corrupt. To confirm this to the watchlist, from the menu in the upper left corner tap Delete Watchlist and confirm deletion. Now add a stock and see if it works. If it does, then you can do the same for portfolio.
I am sorry for not providing a way to save data when you switch devices. Ia m working on an enhancement to upload/email your data to an email address. It should be available in a few weeks.
The multiple portfolios hit a snag, as per the current IA I cannot incorporate more than 3 portfolios. I am trying to get around it, but without erasing the users data and starting from scratch when the app launches it may not be possible. So I am trying to get the upload functionality to save the existing portfolio to an email working before releasing the multiple portfolios.
Hi Jac, If the portfolio was working before and is not working now, then I think you may have a stock that is not being traded anymore. To fix this, click on the "Settings" icon (second last) at the bottom toolbar. In the Settings screen click on Export Portfolio and this will open a email message with your portfolio content, send it to yourself. In the received message which will be structured as follows :
The reason for that is there are two UAL symbol tickers one in NYSE and one in NASDAQ. I am guessing you are looking at UAL Corp. So enter NYSE:UAL instead of just entering UAL and it should work.

The calculations are right it is just the presentation is confusing.
ReplyDeleteI would expect share prices (purchase and current) to be in pence and the total share holing and the total portfolio value to be in pounds.

Hi Leo,
ReplyDeleteI think the installation was corrupt or did not complete installation at all .
Thank you

Also make sure that you have a good internet connection while installation, in most cases that seems to be the issue.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Madhu
And Leo are you using any quotation marks anywhere like ' or " in portfolio names? It should not matter, but just as a precaution avoid them for now.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Madhu
Hi Leo, is your issue resolved. I forgot to ask, when you installed the app, and first launched it, it must have asked you to give a portfolio name. Once that was entered, it should have taken you to the portfolio screen with no stocks in there and a message saying that your portfolio is empty. Click the Add button to get started. Did you get all that? Once you click the Add button or + button we should be able to add the stocks.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if this helps in anyway.

I would like to be able to add mutual fund and corporate Bonds on the App.

Hello Manuel,
ReplyDeleteFor Mutual Funds you just enter the name of the fund and it should resolve to the Fund. for example "FAIRX" is the name for the Mutual Fund Fairholme. Corporate Bonds data is not available at the moment, sorry.

I just get an error message. Can you help?
Hi David,
ReplyDeleteIs that a fund that you are trying to add?? If so, what is the name of the fund??
If you can give the fund name I may be able to help. BGY is "Blackrock International Real Estate Fund" . Is this what you are looking for?? For this just enter NYSE:BGY . IF this does not help let me know what you are entering and also what is the error message you are getting?? Also if possible and if you haven't already leave a review in the catalog.

ReplyDeleteThank you
Madhu
I get gold, minerals & corn costs. But no portfolio & watchlist is empty.
ReplyDeleteWhen you the portfolio and watchlist are empty, you mean that there is a message saying that they are empty?? If it is, then the files from your old phone were not carried over tot he new phone. If you still have your old phone, the portfolio data will be available to copy to the new device by connecting them in USB mode. You won't be able to do that for the watchlist though.
ReplyDeleteBut if there is no message saying that portfolio and watchlist are empty, then the data might be corrupt.
Thank you

What is the ETA of the multiple portfolios?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
A
The multiple portfolios hit a snag, as per the current IA I cannot incorporate more than 3 portfolios. I am trying to get around it, but without erasing the users data and starting from scratch when the app launches it may not be possible. So I am trying to get the upload functionality to save the existing portfolio to an email working before releasing the multiple portfolios.

Hi Jac,
ReplyDeleteIs it happening for the portfolio or even the watchlist, commmoditites and other screens too?
it is happening for the potfolio, the msrkets update cirrectly
DeleteHi Jac,
ReplyDeleteIf the portfolio was working before and is not working now, then I think you may have a stock that is not being traded anymore. To fix this, click on the "Settings" icon (second last) at the bottom toolbar. In the Settings screen click on Export Portfolio and this will open a email message with your portfolio content, send it to yourself. In the received message which will be structured as follows :
{"symbol":"c","num_shares":"100",....},{"symbol":"intc","num_shares":"100",....},{"symbol":"v","num_shares":"100",....}
Delete the {.....} that is not valid anymore. Example if {"symbol":"v"...} is invalid then the end result will be :
{"symbol":"c","num_shares":"100",....},{"symbol":"intc","num_shares":"100",....}
if {"symbol":"intc",} is invalid, then the end result will be :
{"symbol":"c","num_shares":"100",....},{"symbol":"v","num_shares":"100",....}
Save this to a text file. Then import this to the app using the Settings screen Import Portfolio.
This should fix the issue.
Thank you
